Kisii hosts the final KCB National Athletics Cross country championship

More than 800 Athletes are expected to grace the first National Athletics event in this year in Kisii, for the seventh and final of the  (KCB) Kenya Commercial Bank and Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championship to be held today Saturday.

Top Athletes in the country are are also expected to show up their skills as preparation for the London Olympics to be held later this year.

Athletics Kenya public ralations Officer who is also Nyanza South Chairman Mr Peter Angwenyi said that the race will be held at Kisii Golf Club starting from  9.a.m.

However, among the big names expected in todays race are,Nicholas Sogom,Jairus Kipchoge,Linus Chumba to scrambled it out  in men’s jackpot  prize  the 12 Km senior men race.

Japheth Korir, Ernest Ng’eno and Edwin Mokua a student at Boruma Secondary School in Kisii who won the Gusii series and later led Kenya’s team in the Chimba Ekiden Marathon in Japan are expected to create a tough atmosphere for the upcoming Athletes in the 8 Km junior men.

While the line up for the women’s 6Km junior are,Sheilla Kipng’etich ,Carolyne Chebwogen and Eva Cherono .

World junior cross country Champion,Faith Chepng’etich,Summery Cherotich ,Alice Aprot ,Alice Mogire,Purity Cherotich and Tabitha Chelagat  to contest in the senior women category.

Angwenyi said that the runners will contest for the 1.2 Million Jackpot prize.

He added that the runners will compete in the 6 Km Junior Men and Junior women,8Km for senior women  and Junior Men while 12 Km for senior men.

He said that the Jackpot winners in each category to receive Sh,300,000 while the first runners up to take home Sh,50,000,second runners up Sh,30,000 while the fourth position to get Sh,20,000.

However firth place finisher to get Sh, 3,000 while the sixth place to take home Sh,2,000.

H e said that the jackpot prize will be alongside normal cash prize for the cross country Championship.
