Changes in society's roles adversely affecting men

Dating these days has lost its meaning; the men we see around nowadays are nothing close to our grand fathers who had set standards that men aspired to achieve when it came to relationships.

Being a woman at the time was something to brag about, they were put on pedestals and treated like queens different from the situation at hand.

I was out with a friend of mine the other day at a club for New Year party, only beer was available something I don’t take. That’s when I realized just how much our men have lost the gentleman touch; the company we had never seemed to bother leave alone the one guy I was out on a date with. But surprising an onlooker waiter came to my rescue by offering to pick my brand from the stores; every guy there gave him grief about it. They started saying that he had a crush on me to go out of his way like that because they would have made me drink whatever was available.

The change of roles in society based on gender balance debate is causing more harm to society than good or will you call it modernity?

As you pass by couples in this modern society, the manly role is lost. The man expects the woman to pay the bills in the restaurant, pay house rent, provide for the family and even make important decisions for the family.

Men in this current society have been sidelined in so many things even leading to some of them opting to take part in what would have been termed as feminine in the past. Men nowadays, pierce their ears, plait their hair, take up feminine jobs like saloon industry, cookery, and many more and they are good in it but where are we headed ?

As many fight for gender equality, we tend to forget just how bad it can affect our morals in society, our livelihood and family morals.

There has been no laid down guidelines in ensuring that the change in gender roles does not affect the livelihood of the future generations. The women’s fight for equality tends to be a peril on their part more than an advantage for that matter.

A woman is now expected to exhibit strong character in most responsibilities like competing for jobs, political posts, carrying out tasks, performing parenthood responsibility and many more.

Men on the other hand have been left to enjoy the light task as the heavy load has just been lifted off their backs; they are not responsible as expected as they expect the woman to perform. A man might even sit back in a public service vehicle expecting the woman to pay for their fare and yet they are meant to be providers for the wife and children.

The current men, jump on top of tables when they see a rat, leave alone a snake. When the door is knocked at late hour of the night, it’s the wife that is woken up to open and yet they are supposed to be protectors and assurance of security.

The change of roles in society pauses as a big challenge and danger to the future generation who might turn out to be worse than the present and much further from the replica of their great great grand parents.

We are headed to a generation whereby men will be house-husbands who are left at home to baby seat, to clean the house, wash clothes clean the dishes and change dippers.

But anyway, when did the rain start beating us? Who is to blame for the change in the roles in society? As much as the blame goes to gender balance proposal, will the society at any point realize the drift in social and moral expectations and get back on track?
