Lugari Mp Cyrus Jirongo has come out in the open and defended his development track record in the last five years as area MP.

As if in response to his critics, Jirongo highlighted some of the development projects he has successfully implemented in the constituency during while in office.

Addressing electorate in his constituency, Jirongo, who has declared his interest in the presidency, said that apart from the many completed and ongoing infrastructural projects under CDF covering
education, health and agriculture sectors, he has successfully appealed to business partners from outside to come and invest in the area.

Jirongo said that he has put modalities in place for jumpstarting several educational projects meant to boost academic standards in the area before his term expires as MP for Lugari.

He disclosed that the government of Turkey in conjunction with the Ministry of Higher Education has agreed to construct a modern university complete with a memorial hospital in the district on a
1,000 acre piece of land in Mautuma area.

This, he said, will be in addition to Masinde Muliro University’s satellite campus that is being constructed near Lugari secondary school.

Still on the same, Jirongo hinted on a possibility of having another university and a technical college built once the government makes land available for the two in Likuyani district.

He assured his constituents that the problem of land title deeds that has for a long time been a thorn to residents living on the new settlement scheme in Mautuma was going to be an issue of the past
saying that the government was on final stages before issuing affected residents with the deeds soon.

Claiming onus for the ongoing construction of modern police headquarters at Lumakanda, Jirongo said that were it not for his efforts the government would have taken the project elsewhere.

Jirongo asked area residents to embrace the police project, adding that the new headquarters will be able to attract direct and indirect business opportunities once in operation.

On the controversial Nzoia dam, the Lugari legislators hit out at his colleagues who had initially led residents from both Lugari and Bungoma North districts in opposing the project for making an abrupt
about turn in support of the project but with fresh demands.

Jirongo wondered why the same politicians who had cast the project in bad light were now pushing the government to have the 15 billion shillings set aside by the World Bank for the project split into three
so that Lugari gets only Ksh4 billion.

“After rallying residents against the project the same fellows are now pushing the government to have money meant for it split into four with part of set to go to Mumias and other places,” said Jirongo.
