A long distance truck driver David Kange is nursing a bullet injury at the Bungoma   District Hospital after he was allegedly shot while he was in the Uganda clearing yard of Malaba on Monday afternoon.

Speaking to west fm, 27 year old David Kange said that he was shot while in Uganda clearing Yard by a police officer on duty. The incident happened after he had gone to seek for fuel from a truck driver belonging to their company CCK crude petroleum. He was mistakably confused for a thief   and shot.

 ‘I realized that I had no sufficient fuel while on the queue and coincidentally I spotted a vehicle from our company. I went and conducted the driver, informed him about the shortage and he accepted to assist me saying that there was no hitch considering the fact that the vehicle was from the same company based at Mombasa. He later agreed to escort me to where the next vehicle that was headed to Kampala was,’ explained Kange.

‘On returning to my vehicle with the fuel, a police officer emerged from behind and asked the two of us to kneel down saying that I was a thief and colluding with the officer to steel. I instantly I went down but the driver I was with did not adhere, a factor that prompted the officer to shoot him but he smartly escaped the bullet’, added the driver.

He said that the officer having missed his colleague turned to him and shot him in his leg. He was rescued by good Samaritans who took him to Kocholya Distict Hospital where he was referred to Bungoma District hospital for x-ray.

The driver said he reported the mater to Malaba police station yesterday but Teso police boss Elphas Korir refuted the allegation saying that he had not received such a case however promised to contact his Uganda counterpart.

Kange who is currently suffering the bullet injury, has called upon the government to probe the matter for justice to be done.
