Irate members of public in Malaba descended upon two teenagers mercilessly after the two had allegedly beaten and molested a mentally challenged boy on Saturday evening.
10 year old Moses Wekesa and 20 year old Bonze are said to have attacked 10 year old mentally retarded Brian Otieno who was walking along Malaba –Bungoma highway.
Speaking to west Fm at the scene, Tom Omoit an elder brother to the mentally challenged boy said that the crowd was attracted after Brian was heard crying in and when asked what the problem was, he pointed at two boys who were running away.
The angry residents then pursued the two boys, caught up with them near Malaba police station and beat them up before they were rescued by police officers.
On arrival to the police station, Teso OCS Sebastian Mulele noted that the suspect who was only identified as Bonze was the notorious thief being hunted by police officers over increased cases of theft in Malaba.
Confirming the incident, Mulele said that tBonze will be arraigned in court once the investigations are complete.
Moses Wekesa the other suspect was set free after he pleaded innocence before the OCS saying he did not harass the boy heaping blames on Bonze whom he said started beating the mentally affected boy who had refused to respond to greetings.
Mulele however warned the public against taking law in their hands but instead should forward suspects to police officers for action. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
