More than ten years ago, Shinyalu now known as Kakamega Central District hit news headlines not only in Kenya, East Africa but the whole world.

Whoever is not aware might be wondering how it happened, yes, in 2001 a man in Shinaylu hit headlines for murdering his own family and eight other villagers using crude weapon.

These cannot be said to be the first or the last the area has been experiencing funny happenings and on 14th of May 2012, the region’s District commissioner Mr. Wisdom Mwamburi in collaboration with different denominations went to pray for the district regarding the occurrences.

In his address to the public Mwamburi cited unusual incidents that have happened and continue happening in the region.

“It is in Shinyalu that a man whom we can’t say was mad was brutally murdered, his family and other residents at the same time, why that happened no one can really explain,” lamented Mwamburi.

Recently the DC said there is a 16 year old who stabbed his friend killing him on the spot and then asked why, the young man said the friend hat take his girlfriend away.

It is the region according the DC that has experienced chiefs and assistant chief’s killings by the residents mercilessly by the residents.

The Kakamega East administration police entertaining those present at the prayer rally.

“It is not something usual when residents just decide to hunt administrators like chiefs and their deputies killing them, one might wonder but such has been happening in Shinyalu, it’s not common thing to see leaders being killed and we saw that as a bad omen in the society and we decided to organize this so that we can condemn it in the name of Jesus Christ and” remarked the District commissioner.

Theft and excessive consumption of illicit brew in the area has been on the rise something that the provincial administrator says has played a big role in the spreading poverty index in the region.

Mwamburi further said Shinyalu is one of the regions that rapists live within the people.

Kakamega East DC Wisdom Mwamburi hands a tin containing soil to represent the distrcit to the church leaders for prayers.

“It’s in Shinaylu where the rape cases reported are so funny, it’s in this district that a father raped his own daughters, children rape their mothers, other family members and others even rape their grandmother to make the matter worse after sometimes stealing from them,” he said.

“Bestiality here is also a common thing, people go for animals and when you hear this you wonder what is happening and that’s why we need straight forward prayers,” added the Dc.

It is such happenings that according to him he collaborated with the church to pray for the district and seek the Lords intervention.

When one mentions Shinyalu, he or she cannot escape mentioning jigger infestation in the area.

“Here jigger’s paralyses people, people are affected on the heads, toes, hands, in private parts and the whole body,” he said.

“We indeed need prayers in Shinyalu” these were the words the administrator said lastly.

“There are some things we can do as human beings, but there are some that we cannot do come what may, and that what we can’t do we leave to God  to work it out, and that’s when we came together with different denominations to pray for Kakamega East District”, he said.

The DC gave some soil in a tin to the church leaders for the purpose of committing the District to the almighty God fully.

“I give this soil to you to commit this district in the able hands of God because am told when this area was made a district, it wasn’t prayed for,” said Mwamburi.
