The Moi Avenue Street in Bungoma Town.

Bungoma Municipal Council has set effective development plans to improving the town to meet the modern standards as stipulated under the Vision 2030.

Senior Administration Officer Mrs. Mildred Induri stated that the Municipal council liaising with technical team from the Ministry of planning are organizing to check on buildings that don’t meet the required standard for demolition. This is after the collapse of storey building while under construction due to poor workmanship where several people were trapped under the rubble.

On expansion, the officer said that the ministry of local government has set aside some funds through urban development and planning to design modern bus station to serve the increasing number of vehicles day by day and do repair the Bungoma Municipal market that keeps on leaking during heavy rains. She added that each ward shall be given funds to work on some of the projects within their locality

“The municipal council also plans to cater more parking spaces in town for motorcycles and cars to reduce congestion which sometimes causes minor accidents,” she said.

The officer noted clearly that road project plan which used to be for the Municipal was snatched to Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA) as the right body to be questioned.

“Besides development the municipal council in partnership with other private sectors who are to set up a home for street children to be removed from town to mitigate the increasing number of street children drastically hence mounting insecurity in Central Business,” said Induri.

“Even though she called for more support from the government to provide enough funds for them and also providing them with proper education because most of them seem to have been isolated by their parents/guardians,” she said
