Education ministry in Bungoma County plans to host Provincial Secondary School Athletics games finals coming July this year for junior athletes and footballers.
Ag. Education Officer Mr. John Omitha stated that district quality and assurance officer Mr.Tom shiundu is working on the needed budget for all schools in Bungoma County.
“But right now what is worrying the ministry is the release of the money in time because up to date no funds have been disbanded to the respective districts in the region,” said Omitha.
The sports game at the Kenya Secondary School level is set to become competitive with a planned introduction of a University sports scholarship for excellent performers which was an initiative of the Brookside Dairy’s the official sponsors of the first Term Games,
Even though Mr. Omitha noted that the biggest challenge in the region is limited resources which create varying degrees of funding ability for local school systems which in turn creates a culture in which competition for existing resources.
“Special interest schools from both within and without compete for existing resources then funding priorities become the object of political debate at the local, state and national levels,” He said.
Sports has become more politicized as we have moved from a society in which higher levels of sports which consider the province of the few to one in which a high-quality games viewed as both a universal right and a necessity for individual welfare.
Mr. omitha urged parents to come up more strongly and support their children to excel in sports as one way of uplifting the hidden talents in this region. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
