Lugari branch KNUT secretary Mr. Namwinguli Makhanu.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Lugari branch has accused the outgoing Likuyani District Education Officer for misappropriating and embezzling funds meant for co-curricular activities.
Speaking to West FM in his office, Lugari KNUT branch executive secretary Mr. Namangwili Makhanu claimed that the outgoing Likuyani DEO Mrs. Mary Sangoro had misappropriated co-curricular funds totaling to Sh285, 000.
Appealing to the government to probe into the issue, Makhanu revealed that the matter came up during an official handing over ceremony held in Likuyani last Tuesday when Sangoro was unable to explain why Sh 185,000 was removed from the primary school’s co- curricular vote head to service transportation of heads to a KEPSHA workshop in Busia.
The KNUT official pointed out that due to misuse of activity funds, pupils and teachers from Likuyani district have complained of not being fed well during the district’s music festival held last week and wondered what will happen during this week’s regional competitions that start Thursday at Lumakanda Township.
The outgoing DEO has further been accused of misusing Sh 100,000 meant for renovation of the district education offices in Likuyani.
“Can a whooping Sh100, 000 be spent on painting of the DEO’s offices only?” asked Makhanu.
Efforts to reach Mrs. Sangoro for a comment have been fruitless as her phone went unanswered several times.
Mrs. Sangoro has been transferred to Nyamira district while Mr. David Mwadihi Esemere takes over from her.
Until his posting to Likuyani, Mr. Esemere was the DEO for Nyamira district. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
