Former Vice President Moody Awori has urged the government    to stop spending a lot of funds on international matters instead focus on internal issues affecting Kenyans across the country.

The former VP said it is wrong for the government to spend a lot of funds fighting the Al- Shaabab militia in Somalia and brokering peace in the Africa’s newest State South Sudan at the expense of problems affecting Kenyans.

He said that government apart from the international mission, it should also focus on resettling the people who were displaced as a result of the unprecedented presidential results in 2007/2008 commonly referred to as Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’S).

“Apart from the 2007 IDP’s, we also have people who lost property and displaced in 1992 and 1997 and the government has done little if nothing to assist them to go back to normal life,’’ he pointed.

Speaking at a church function in Muyenga village in Bumula District Hon Awori disclosed that the problem of landless people in the country remains unsolved in the country.

He asserted that 50 years after independence Kenyans are still faced with the challenges that the first government vowed to fight in 1963.

“50 years down after independence Kenyans still face the challenge of illiteracy, poverty and diseases,’’ he charged.

Awori said that Kenya has stagnated a lot in terms of development owing to bad leadership in the country saying,  “In 1963 Kenya’s economy was  as par with that of Taiwan, Malyasia and South Korea, but these countries their economies are now four times that of Kenya,’’ he pointed out.

The former VP lauded President Kibaki for introducing Free Primary Education and affordable education at secondary level while appealing to Kenyans to elect able development oriented leaders come the next general elections.

He said that a lot of progress in the country can be registered if at all there is a good leadership which is concerned about empowering the people economically.

“Kenyans should understand that during public rallies over 90 percent of promises made by politicians are pure lies, you should scrutinize all aspirants in regard to their ability and development track record without basing on any form of motivation,’’ he said.

Further he urged for political leaders to foster peace among communities and ensure the forth coming general elections are peaceful.
