West Fm senior Editor Mr. Nandemu Barasa at The Hague where he is attending a media training for Kenyan journalist on how to report on ICC proceedings.
A ten day media training focusing on factual reporting on ICC related issues enters its second day this Tuesday at The Hague.
About fifteen journalists from Kenya are attending the training ahead of the ICC judges’ ruling on whether the Kenyan cases will start in September or after March 2013.
The media training has been organized by the Outreach Unit, PIDS within the ICC.
Kenyan journalists have also been facilitated by International Commission of Jurists, (ICJ) in conjunction with the ICC and the main objective of the training is to train journalists so that they can report factual news on ICC proceedings.
In her opening remarks, Chief of the PIDS Sonia Robia called on journalists to take the training seriously and focus on factual reporting of the proceedings.
She said some journalists might have been reporting wrongly the proceedings arguing that the training will assist them fully on covering the proceedings.
Later, the journalists will meet the new Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda who was sworn in barely a week ago taking over from Louis Moreno Ocampo.
This Tuesday, the group will meet ICC registrar Silvana Arbia as they focus mostly on her office and what is expected of it.
