The acting Bududa District health officer Betty Muchala has called upon the government and nongovernmental organizations giving help and their support to the district to help in reassessment on health and sanitation in the area to avoid further spread of cholera in the area.
Speaking in a District meeting with officials from the office of the prime minister and the different N.GO’s giving assistance to the victims and the survivors of the resent landslide catastrophe held at the District Hospital yesterday, Betty said that the landslide has triggered a wide spread of cholera in the area.
She said that the landslide swept off all the latrines in the three destroyed villages causing a large flow of the human waste in the water used by the nearby homes.
“This has caused an increase of the epidemic and calls for a serious assessment on the latrine coverage and safe water in the area,” she added.
Kisito health care international N.G.O which operates in Manafwa District said that it will dedicate its self in supplying 17 boxes of clean water every day, 200 gloves 5 hand washing stations, disinfectant and soap to the nearby community security officials and residents in the area.
The Kisito organization media official, Uthman Mugoya said that the organization is to also set up a temporally counseling center to help those in tremor regain their self. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
