Thugs broke into an assistant chief’s office in Lugari District of Kakamega County and made away with furniture.

Speaking to West FM, Lugari District Officer Mr. Lawrence Ngare confirmed that unknown number of thugs broke into an office belonging to Mbagara sub location assistant Chief Mrs. Pamela Davava at night and made away with all office chairs and frames of timber that had been stored in the office.

“The motive behind the breakage is yet to be established because perpetrators of the crime are still at large,” said Mr. Ngare.

He however, added that police officers from Turbo station are investigating the matter and at the same time appealed to area residents to volunteer any lead information that would help arrest the perpetrators.

The district officer further encouraged members of public in the district to take issues to do with their security seriously urging them to approach visitors or strangers in the region with a lot of caution.

“We are encouraging the public to keep account of any new persons visiting their surrounding and in case of suspect visitors they quickly notify our security agencies,” said Mr. Ngare.

Elsewhere, chiefs and their assistants have been asked to remain impartial throughout this electioneering period in order to maintain high levels of security in Lugari district.

Newly posted Lugari District Commissioner Mr. Benjamin Njoroge said this when he addressed all chiefs and their assistants drawn from the district in his boardroom.

He cautioned the chiefs against aligning themselves towards politicians of their choice adding that such would easily compromise their work especially that of maintaining law and order.

Pointing out Lugari district as cosmopolitan, the DC encouraged area chiefs and village elders to instead foster unity by preaching peace and reconciliation messages among area residents who he noted are from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

He said that one of his key administrative agenda will be to strengthen the community policing programme so that petty crimes including animal theft are reduced and eradicated from the district.

Mr. Njoroge, who is now two weeks old in Lugari district, assured area residents that he will cordially work with all civil servants and stakeholders in order to improve security and living standards of the area.
