Ugandan Police in Mbale District are questioning Amina Ndagire, a 20 year old Woman from Bumboyi in Busamaga ward at Wanale division over the mysterious death of her 24 year old husband and their one year old daughter who were discovered mysteriously dead in their house Thursday morning.

The Eastern Regional police spokes person Diana Nandawula confirmed the incident saying that 24 year old Nasa Mwanje and his one year old daughter Sofia Mutesi were allegedly discovered mysteriously dead in their house on this morning by concerned citizens who reported the mater to police.

She said that Ndagire who is said to have feared reporting the mater to police for fear of implication after being handed over to police by the concerned citizens who had gathered at their home Thursday morning in her defense claimed that she allegedly went to sleep early in the evening and left Mwanje cooking but was also surprised when she discovered they were dead in the morning.

Nandawula says the three live in the same house but it appears strange to note that Ndagire says she has no idea over the incident that is said to have occurred over the night adding that the residents say the man was seen well and healthy a day before.

No injuries were found on the two bodies and the cause has not been established yet police suspects that the death might have been caused by suffocation through the heat from the charcoal stove believed to have been used by the late before going to sleep.

Nandawula further revealed that samples of the cooked meat and milk believed to have been yesterday’s meal left over’s found in the house have been taken for testing on food poisoning.

The two bodies have been also taken to Mbale referral hospital for postmortem while Ndagire is apparently being held at the Mbale District central police station as the investigations are ongoing.

However concerning the taxi drivers strike in Mbale, the war between the Taxi Drivers and conductors at Mbale Taxi Park and the Municipality authorities over collection of revenue at the park has deepened with the taxi drivers threatening to go on a sit down strike.

The taxi drivers under their umbrella of Mbale Taxi Drivers’ Association are demanding that the Municipality give them a full authority and control to collect the revenue at the taxi park from 6:00pm up to 8:00am the following day.

They want the Municipal council to revise its contract agreement with Manafa Dealers, a company contracted to collect revenue at the taxi park allowing the later to collect revenue only from 8:00am up to 6:00pm daily when they hand over the responsibility to the Taxi Drivers’ Association.

In a letter to the Municipal town clerk signed by the association chairman, Moses Wauyo, the members gave the Municipality up to the end of Thursday to react accordingly. They said after several pleas to the Municipality, they have been ignored.

The members said their several attempt to have the contract to manage the taxi park including the collecting revenue has been frustrated by some officials at the Municipality.

They argued that a standing order at the Ministry of Local Government dictates that the contract to manage and collect revenue at the Taxi or and Bus park and the markets should be given to the association members of these respective areas. They wonder why the Municipality chose to deny them the contract and gave priority to another company.

Wauyo said should the Municipality fail to sort them out by end of Thursday; the taxi drivers will go on a sit down strike beginning Friday morning. He said all taxi drivers operating in Mbale have been informed and are aware of the decision.

He said he also notified the director of Manafa Dealers who are collecting revenue at the park about their decision but he ignored them calling them strangers.

However when they contacted Joy Manana acting Deputy Town clerk Mbale Municipality, she said the Municipality will not be forced to revise its contract agreement with Manafa Dealers. She says Manafa Dealers are allowed to collect revenue at the taxi park 24 hrs.

She added that they are not moved by the taxi drivers’ threat to go on strike. She instead urged them to seek legal redress if they are dissatisfied by the Municipal’s action.
