A dark cloud engulfed Monday morning by 7 AM in Shishebu village Manyala Sub-location South Marama Location Shiatsala Division Butere District when a middle aged man suspected to be a cattle thief was stoned to death by angry villagers.
The suspect Ongoma Mukabana as he was identified, from the neighboring village of Shirembe in Masaba Sub-location was stoned after he was caught with the stolen cows he was ferrying to the market for sell.
According to the area Chief Morrice Ongaya, the cows were stolen from one Reverend Patrick Elkana Balewa of Masaba ACK last week on Monday and they must have been on their way to find market for them especially today being a market day.
A villager revealed that they have been setting up traps to arrest the suspects knowing the relevant places to look for the thieves was at market places because the thieves were likely to take them to the market for sell..
Mr. Ongaya blamed the ongoing strike of workers at the Butere-Mumias County Council over the transfer of their clerk saying it is paving ways for illegal items to find a way of getting in the market.
He also wanted the residents not to involve in mob justice and killing suspects terming it as inhuman act but instead to hand them over to the security officers so that possible measures should be done and disciplinary cases be taken upon them. Switch to Our Mobile Site |
