Victor Ambani Simiyu, from Kimilili who has been suffering from neurofibromatosis for over six years is now recuperating at the Moi Referral Hospital in Eldoret five months down the line after West Fm exposed his appeal for medical assistance.

It’s all smiles for him after well wishers from the United States of America showed up to pay for his surgical bills at the hospital.

Victor who hails from Kamasielo village, Kimilili District of Bungoma had ailed for over six years while visiting several hospitals for medication without success.

Fortunately a group in America that facilitates a wide range of deliberations with a view towards community initiatives and development in Kenya were touched by Wambani’s ordeal and embarked on a fund rising to help foot the bills.

Led by the group’s co-coordinator John Wafula the Lumboka group membership drawn predominantly from western part of Kenya who straddle Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties and by extension Kenya and Diaspora, the fund raising saw approximately Sh 104,200.

“We saw the article on the West Fm website and sought to do something to help foot the bills for Victor, since we have our roots back in Kenya ,Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties and thanks to the members the response was overwhelming,” said Wafula.

The delicate procedure estimated between Ksh 70000- 90000 at MTRH were way above reach for Victor thus Lumboka’s assistance to him could only be termed as God send.

On Tuesday 7th August 2012 the surgery was successfully carried out lead by Dr. Ondigo (Victor’s chief surgeon) for close to seven hours.

A biopsy will be performed to determine whether the tumor is cancerous. Meanwhile, Victor will stay put in the hospital as he recuperates awaiting the second phase of skin crafting.

Meanwhile after the surgery Victor personally called me up at around 11.56 pm and appreciated all the efforts put in place to make the surgery a success.

“I really thank all the friends in America for their generous contribution and having granted me this opportunity to undergo the surgery, I feel like a heavy load has been lifted from my life and pray to God that all of you will be blessed for your generosity to save my life” said Victor.
