Mabale primary school in Busia County Tuesday received a computer donation from Mama Miriam Foundation.

Presenting the computers to the school headmaster the Foundation’s President Alice Were said her organization was committed towards uplifting standards of under privileged children who have performed well in school, but unable to advance their education.

 “We uplift children who are not able to cater for their education despite having performed outstandingly in their academics,” she said, adding that they will also provide the same to Osieko primary school in Budalang’i constituency.

 Addressing pupils at the school, Mrs Were said she had learnt that with the advent of Information Communication Technology many schools in rural areas are yet to be introduced to computer technology.

 She said the gift of the computer will assist to introduce the pupils to computer skills in a bid to boost their education at an early age.

 “Pupils should embrace technology and work hard being a world of internet. The earlier they get exposed to computers the better for them in the society,” added the organization’s president.

 In politics of Busia County

 Mrs. Were who is aspiring for the deputy governorship seat, urged women to come out handy and seek for various elective positions under the new devolved structure to help address the patriarchal face of Busia politics.

 She said women should take advantage of the new constitution that has given them muscles to ensure they participate fully in the leadership of the County.

 “We need support from all persons to ensure we fill positions provided to us by the new constitution,” said Were, adding that she is out to battle for the seat and has started fighting for the position.
