Misikhu market of Bungoma County received a police post after months of experiencing insecurity apart from the deployment of 6 new police officers in the area.

The area residents expressed gratitude to the District Commissioner Bungoma East Mr.Adan Gedow for working towards the putting up of the post and the area MP Alfred Sambu for allocating CDF funds to put it up. They however, were keen to caution the new officers to carry out their responsibilities to the latter and not to fall prey of corruption like the previous ones.

"We are happy that the government listened to our plea and set up the police post, but we need an assurance that the officers will not join the previous ones who were cooperating with criminals instead of fighting crime," said Mr.Eliud Khakame.

They blame the Administrative Police that was previous in charge of security in the area for underperformance and laxity and called for total overhaul and accountability in reinforcing security.

 "The APs never used to work, whenever they would be called to go after thugs they either came out unarmed or go the opposite direction we even think they were working with the criminals," said Joel Masika. The motorcycle riders also cautioned the police against harassing them for money instead helping curb cases of stolen bicycles.

Speaking during the opening of the post on Thursday, the DC, Mr. Gedow stated that the provincial administration was after ensuring total security in the whole district.

"We will stop at nothing to ensure that Bungoma East District is secure for investment and development," said Mr.Gedow. He however, informed the public that having police officers in the area is no guarantee to security and called for residents to cooperate with them.

 "Deploying the police in the area alone is not enough, it’s upon the public to relay import information to them for them to be able to curb insecurity and criminal offences," said Mr.Gedow.
