Ministry of Special Programmes PS Andrew Mondoh has urged the residents of Busia County to work together with the security agencies in the area to curb insecurity.

Mr. Mondoh said residents should be ready to provide relevant information to police officers to ensure those individuals involved in the criminal activities are apprehended.

“The increased cases of insecurity have raised concern right from Bungoma, Mumias, Nambale, and Busia to parts of Siaya. And this is upon residents to report those terrorizing locals especially at night,” he added.

Speaking at a funeral service of the late Stafford Wabala, a teacher who was shot by thugs armed with guns at High Rock estate within Busia Municipality, Mondoh expressed concern that deterioration of security would discourage investors from the area.

“It is vital to curb insecurity if at all we need development in Busia County,” said the PS, adding that aspirants eyeing various County seats should also include the issue of insecurity in their policies they intend to implement when elected as leaders,” he said.

He also advised area residents to elect visionary leaders who will address issues of concern affecting them in the community among them insecurity and unemployment besides uniting them being a cosmopolitan County.

Busia branch Knut executive secretary Mark Oseno urged the government to beef up security in effort of protecting the area residents from criminal attacks, adding that it is an issue that will force them as teachers to demonstrate to protest over insecurity.

“The late was the fourth teacher to be attacked by thugs and shot in Busia County in the last four months,” said Oseno.

He said the country was facing a serious shortage of teachers following the growing demand of knowledge but surprisingly the government was not willing to employ more.

Also present were various aspirants for the key county seats in Busia County who challenged the relevant officers charged with the role of maintaining security to execute their responsibilities.

However, the residents have petitioned the Internal Security minister professor George Saitoti to transfer all security officers within the town for laxity in their line of duties.
