A suspected robber was beaten by an angry mob in Kimilili town after he was suspected to have been involved in executing a robbery incident at Wapi 2 petrol station Sunday night in Kimilili Town of Bungoma County disappearing with an unknown amount of money.

The unidentified suspect was ambushed by the residents at a local drinking spree before being beaten leaving him seriously injured.

Fortunately, the Kimilili police arrived at the scene on time and took him for medication at the Kimilili district hospital.

According to the owner of the station Mr Situma Wekesa, the two robbers armed with Ak47 rifles had stormed the station yester night and ordered everybody to lie down before looting cash from them.

“They took cash from each pump attendant and some of the customers then fired several times in the air before disappearing just on foot using the Kimilili-Kamukuywa road,'' said Wekesa.

He further complained that the police took time to reach the scene despite being notified early enough thus giving the suspects ample time to escape.

Wekesa called upon the government through the ministry of internal security to beef up security in Kimilili town especially around business premises since they are the most targeted by thugs.

However, on confirming the incident area OCPD Ancient Kaloki said the police are investigating the issue and called upon the residents to volunteer information to them that may lead to an arrest of the suspects.

'' I wish to appeal to any Kimilili resident who has any vital information regarding the incident to be free and forward it to the police or the provincial administration and we will act accordingly,'' said Kaloki.
