Lugari Forest Guard in custody over robbery allegations

A forest guard is being held in custody by the Lugari police after being suspected to have played a crucial role in masterminding a robbery through which a spate of violence was unleashed on residents of three villages in the area Sunday night.

 The officer stationed at Lugari Forest station is suspected to have been a member of a 15 man gang that terrorized villagers at Lumama, Mukumu and Manyonyi villages.

 Over 10 people were injured and several others robbed by the machete wilding gang. Majority are still undergoing treatment at the Lumakanda district hospital.

 Speaking while consoling the injured in hospital, area acting DC Richard Ajwang’ pledged in depth investigations that will ensure all suspects are arrested.

 He at the same time ordered security organs in the area to intensify patrols to curtail further recurrence of similar incidents.

 The administrator appealed to members of the public to cooperate with police to ensure that elements out to pollute existing peace were identified and secluded.

 The DC also called on all health facilities in the area to report to security agencies any person who may for their attention with panga cuts following reports that one of the suspects fled with deep panga cuts inflicted by members of the public who responded to distress calls at Mukumu village.
