The Kenya Scouts Association new elected leaders in various districts within Bungoma County said political leaders in this country must embrace political tolerance in a move to ensure the country remains one before and even after the elections.

Speaking after being elected as area District Scout Commissioner for Bungoma south district Samuel Mukhebi said that political leaders should not take this country hostage by dividing Kenyans along tribal lines instead focus on uniting various communities to coexist and work together in all spheres of development.

Mr. Mukhebi said that the Kenya Scouts Association enhances good morals insisting that Kenyans have a chance to elect leaders with good morals with a development agenda geared towards transforming the living standards of Kenyans as opposed to those who want to accomplish their own selfish agenda at the expense of the electorate come the general elections.

He said the government has an obligation to ensure the elections are peaceful to avert a similar situation that happened in 2007/2008 after the unprecedented presidential results where innocent people were killed, property lost and evictions.

‘’We want our politicians to understand that they are only opponents and not enemies, and losers should accept defeat and join hands with the winners to develop the country’’, said Mukhebi.

The Scout Youth Representative in Bungoma South district Suleiman Khamisi applauded the scouts for conducting peaceful elections saying the gesture should be emulated by the political leadership of this country.

Mr. Khamisi appealed to the youth in Bungoma County to join the scout movement in order to learn good morals, nurture talents and also develop their future careers.

In Bungoma South Samuel Mukhebi was elected as the area District Scout Commissioner, Mr. Godffrey Ngoya  a deputy Head Teacher at Siaka primary went unopposed as the District Scouts Program Commissioner, Albert Simiyu was elected District Scouts Training Commissioner while Suleiman Khamisi went in as the scout youth representative.

Ms. Bernadette Simiyu took the post of area District Scouts Commissioner in Bungoma East; Amos Makata won the position of District Scout Program Commissioner while Rose Wataka and Necodemus Barasa came in as District Scout Training Commissioner and scout representative respectively.

In Kimilili District Ms. Carol Wangila won the position of District Scout Commissioner, James Wanyela elected as District Scout Program Commissioner, Robinson as District Scout Training Commissioner and Simon Murunga was elected the scout youth representative.

Ms. Joan Khaemba was elected as the District Scout Commissioner in Bungoma West district, Richard Iyaya formerly National Scouts Program Commissioner won the office of District Scout Program Commissioner while Michael Makokha and Bernard Ngutuku teacher at Kimukung Secondary school were elected as District Scout Training Commissioner and scout youth representative respectively.

In Bungoma South District the elections were presided over by the District Youth Development Officer Ms. Alice Murambi her deputy Ms. Metrine Tenge who said the elections were free, fair and peaceful in regard to simple majority win rule.

In Bungoma Central the elections are scheduled for Thursday next week a day before the County officials’ elections to conform to the provisions of the new constitution.
