The recently deployed Trans Nzoia county commissioner Ms. Charity Chepkonga (letf) has pledged to work with other stakeholders in the county to find a lasting solution to the perennial insecurity situation that has rocked the area for a long time.

Speaking during the 49th Madaraka Day celebrations at Kenyatta stadium the commissioner said that she will hold meetings with all security stakeholders to chat the best way forward to solve the menace that has given residents sleepless nights and claimed lives of many.

"I have heard there is insecurity in this county and I want to promise that I will be committed together with other stakeholders to look for better ways of bringing to an end the situation," said the commissioner in her first public address since she was deployed to the county.

In the same context Ms. Chepkonga urged residents of the entire county to champion for peace and coexistence in the run of the next general elections so that the 2007/2008 post-elections violence scenario is not repeated in the county and the country as a whole.

She said that bearing in mind that the county is cosmopolitan with virtually all the tribes of this country residing there, the residents should not use their tribal affiliations to cause trouble or chaos to others.

"As the county commissioner I would like to ensure that everybody living here stays in peace and no one oppresses another because of his or her tribe or color”, said Chepkonga.

She further promised to cooperate with all politicians aspiring to vie for different elective posts in the county to ensure there is peace during the campaigns and a peaceful election thereafter. She pledged to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants to ensure none of them is disadvantaged.

The commissioner who was accompanied by the area DC Mr. Wilfred Kinyua and other county and district departmental heads further appealed to women not to undermine their husbands regardless of the disparities realized in their income.

Some women were noted to be the cause of family breakages as a result of them being empowered economically and being at the same level or beyond that of their spouses hence become rude and cause divorces.

"The husband will always remain the head of the home and the woman or wife is the neck hence a woman should always respect her husband regardless of what she earns or contributes towards the welfare of the family or home," said the commissioner.By Frankline Bwire

In Busia County, Commissioner Joyce Isiakho called for peaceful campaigns as the country heads towards the General Election.

She stressed the need for local residents in the area to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful way that would not result to violence in the County.

Speaking at the Busia Municipal stadium, Isiakho warned the youth against being used by politicians to fuel violence, adding that they should shun leaders perpetrating the vice.

“We should desist from acts that will fuel violence but instead embrace unity to and leave in a peaceful environment,” she said.

Busia District Commissioner Gitonga Mwiandi said measures have been put in place by the government to ensure adequate security to the local residents.

Mwiandi appealed to area residents to work closely with the relevant security agencies through providing vital information in a bid to curb insecurity cases in the area. 

Elsewhere, the Butula district commissioner Bosek Lang’at (right) urged owners of Bars and restaurants to remain vigilant against the Alshabab terror group.

Addressing the area residents at Bwaliro primary school during the Madaraka day celebrations, Lang’at said owners of the premises should ensure they screen thoroughly persons entering their buildings to curb the threat.

“Lets us check thoroughly clients who visit our business premises to ensure they do not destroy us,”

Lang’at also urged those with fire arms illegally to surrender them to the police officers or else risk being apprehended.

“The law will take its course against those who will be arrested with illegal fire arms. We want the local residents to report any suspected individuals so that legal measures can be undertaken immediately,” said the DC.
