Secondary school leavers from marginalized areas of Kerio Valley who want to pursue their education in higher institution now smile after Moi University pledged to open up a satellite campus in the region.

The move by the institution  is aimed at taking education closer to areas which had been locked out of all spheres of social and economic development by the past regimes to enable it compete  with other parts in accessing university education.

Speaking during an education stakeholder’s forum at Moi Girls' Kapsowar Secondary school grounds in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Dr Susan Chebet, the University’s Principal administrator in charge of Outreach and Extension Services said that the public institution of high learning was keen to opening a satellite campus in   the region.

Dr Chebet said that many students from the region who qualified to join various public and private universities were still languishing in their homes due to lack of admission chances and that was why Moi university wants to establish a satellite campus in the area to save them from the situation.

Chebet asked the school leavers to use the opportunity by enrolling when the institution starts to operate.

“The university was concerned of several appeals from the local community which had requested for the establishment of campus for a long time” she said.

She said that many students from the region who qualified to join various public and private universities were still languishing in their homes due to lack of vacancies and that was why Moi University wants to establish a satellite campus in the area to  give them an opportunity to  continue with  the higher education.
