‘’Nucleus Children's Trust” a non-governmental organization has launched an awareness campaign aimed at curbing and reducing child abuse and related cases in Matete District of Kakamega County.

Addressing participants during a ceremony to launch the Blue Ribbon Campaign, (a campaign meant to fight all forms of child abuse) at Bezelel primary school in Kaburengo village, the director Mr. John Kariuki disclosed that his NGO had so far handled 2,500 cases touching on child abuse since its inception in the District three years ago.

Mr. Kariuki appealed to all stakeholders in children affairs to join hands and help his organization eradicate the vice, which he observed had developed deep roots.

He said that it was the duty of all adult members of society to protect children rights in the area.

As part of efforts to fight the vice, Mr. Kariuki said that his organization was currently moving around learning institutions in the area, enlightening children on their basic human rights.

He added that the children were also being educated on how to seek legal redress whenever their rights are abused or violated.

Speaking on behalf of Matete District Commissioner, area District Officer Mr. James Nyamwamu said the provincial administration supported activities of Nucleus Children Trust and promised to work closely with the NGO in order to make the campaign successful in the district.

The officer warned that stringent measures will be taken against parents and guardians who resort to kangaroo courts whenever their children are abused noting that the government had put in place new laws to protect children rights.
