The National Union of Kenya Muslims (NUKEM) has condemned the recent terrorist attacks of the AIC Church in Garissa by the Al-Shabaab saying this was meant to cause animosity between Muslims and Christians.

The press statement read by the NUKEM co-coordinator Sheikh Shaaban Zaeed during a press briefing in Mumias town states in part “Muslims have for many years co-existed peacefully with people of other faiths in Kenya and we should continue staying in harmony by not allowing terrorists to create divisions among us”.

Sheikh Zaeed explained that Islam propagates peace and appealed to all Kenyans to remain vigilant and report any suspicions to the security personnel.

The official further urged the government to step up security to curb the increasing numbers of grenade attacks witnessed in the country in the recent past.

The NUKEM Vice Chairman Sheikh Mohammed Khayundi together with Butere-Mumias Branch Supkem Shariff Hassan and the Council of Imaams and Preachers of Kenya Western Province Sheikh Ibrahim Sadallah sent their heartfelt condolences to the families affected with the Garissa attacks and wished those hospitalized quick recovery.
