The majority of the people in Western Province and North Rift are employed in the Agricultural Industry and those who employ them are required by law to pay the minimum stipulated wages. The law does not prohibit an employer paying higher than the basic minimum depending on the diligence and performance of the worker. The law prohibits an employer from paying less than the prescribed minimum.
The Constitution of Kenya at Article 41 stipulates that every person has the right to fair labour practices and remuneration and to reasonable working conditions.
West fm trusts that all employers in Western Province, in the Agricultural Industry will adhere to the basic minimum wages stipulated in the 2012 regulations made by the Minister of Labour.
