The United Democratic Forum party (UDF) has responded negatively to fears among supporters that some Members of Parliament closely associated with presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi will not be subjected to a mandatory nomination procedure.

UDF Secretary General Dan Wameyo says there are no sacred cows in the party adding any leader interested in contesting for any political office on the party’s ticket must get the approval of the Electoral College through a free and fair nomination process.

“UDF must break with the past our rules state that all candidates must be given an equal chance to contest for party’s ticket. That is why we are in the process of establishing the electoral colleges to plan and undertake the nomination exercise,” He declared,

He said the party had concluded the registration of the nomination rules as required by law paving the way for creation of the Electoral College whose membership would be drawn from the sub-location level comprising sixty members elected from the mainstream, youths and women segments.

Wameyo made the remarks when he presided over the harmonization exercise of the interim UDF Kakamega County office.  The exercise was raft with acrimony after a group of officials led by the party’s former Western Provincial coordinator Edward Omung’ala boycotted.

Omung’ala is fighting a group of local officials led by Geoffrey Nasiali to head the county office that will manage and identify the party’s candidates at the county assembly, parliament, senator and the governor’s seat.

The exercise saw the election of councillor Moses Lumiti as the UDF interim county chairman, deputized by Benson Wabuyabo and Nasiali. Raphael Welimo and Alex Khamasi were elected county secretary and youth leader respectively.

Wameyo directed the new office to organize election to establish the sub-location electoral college and submit returns before August 10th.  Meanwhile Wameyo disclosed that UDF will sponsor civic and parliamentary candidates in the forthcoming by-elections.

“As a party, we consider this by-elections and opportunity to market the party and assess ourselves. Yes, definitely we are thinking on this line, we shall front candidates in those areas that vacancies have arisen,” he declared,

He urged the county officials to help identify the right and strong candidates to vie of the UDF ticket.
