The booming bodaboda business in Butere District has ruined a number of bright and talented youths who opts to engage in it at an expense of advancing in their studies.

The area Deputy Police Boss Willy Simba speaking to the leaders of the bodaboda operators in Butere expressed his concern on increased cases of school dropouts especially those in the Secondary Schools.

“The availability of the short term employment offered by some motorbikes owners is the high cause of the high number of school drop outs experienced in the region hence parents have the obligation of counseling their children about their future,” he said adding that this will in turn have a great negative impact on the development of the district.

”Young ,bright and intelligent boys with KCSE grades of B- and C+ opt to engage in this non profitable business failing to advance their studies,” Willy said.

He said that unless the issue is addressed timely the District of Butere might loose potential leaders of tomorrow.

The business is booming every now and then within the area and the operators only submit 300 Kenyan shillings to their bosses per day as a number of residents invest in the motorbikes that have employed the youth both from school and school drop outs.

Mr. Simba advised the youth to engage in reliable activities that might be of a long term earning by taking loans from the youths’ enterprise fund and investing in activities like the starting up of Information Communication and Technology centers such as cyber cafes.
