A twenty two year old man died after being knocked down by a Nairobi bound bus at Mundika Trading Centre along the Busia-Kisumu highway.

Confirming the incident, Busia deputy OCPD Francis Nguli said that though the real cause of the accident has not been identified, the deceased was cycling a bicycle headed in the same direction with the bus before the incident occurred.

Speaking to journalists in Busia town, Nguli said that they have already launched investigations over the incident to ensure the law takes its course against the offender.

“At the moment we are detaining the bus which belongs to the Easy Coach Company to ascertain the cause of the accident before any further steps can be undertaken,” said the deputy OCPD, adding that it all occurred at around 7pm.

He urged all road users especially the boda boda cyclists to exercise caution especially at night when using the roads to prevent unnecessary accidents from occurring.

“Let us adhere to the set traffic regulations to avoid accidents which have continued to consume the lives of our loved ones in the society,” added Nguli.

He also revealed that they are undertaking a routine crackdown exercise to net un-roadworthy vehicles and those without the required documents in a bid to stop the loss of lives through road carnage.

“The owners of the vehicles should ensure their vehicles are fitted with the required documents and adhere to the traffic act. We are not going to tolerate any vehicle found to have gone against the law,”
