Ten passengers narrowly escaped death Thursday morning after a van they were travelling from Kimilili to Kitale lost control and rammed in a butchery at Kamkuywa Market.

According to Kennedy Makhosi an eye witnesses the accident which took place a few minutes after 7am was as a result of the high speed of the vehicle which was beyond control of the driver as he approached the Kitale- Webuye junction hence causing the accident.

Kimilili District Traffic Base Commander Stephen Mshanga said the accident resulted from failed brakes with the injured being rushed to Lugulu Mission Hospital for further medication

He called upon drivers and motorbike operators to be careful while using the road especially this moment when it has been re-carpeted.

“Some drivers are taking advantage of this re-carpeting to drive at high speed not knowing they are risking the lives of their passengers, they should desist from this in order to reduce the number of lives lost in road accidents in this country, ” said Mshanga.

The vehicle was removed from the building and pulled to the Kimilili police station leaving the butchery owner Mr John Juma crying foul as he demanded for compensation for his business saying it was his only source of income and has since the been paralyzed.
